The scallops shell is the icon for Jakobs Weg, or the Saint James way of the Camino de Santiago
Day 2 September 8, 2018
Eager to get an early start, we left Gasthaus zur Post at 8 . The info in the packed indicated the first train at 8:52. At he train station I asked
“Diese Richtung fährt nach Oberhofen, nicht war?” The young man said,” Ja, genau” and so we hopped on the train. It went and stopped and everybody got off except us and one other passenger. The next stop was the end of the line. Not Oberhofen! The man looked at his phone and announced that another train would arrive at 9:13 and would make its next stop at Oberhofen. It did!
Highlights of the hike were a long gradual climb through fields at the edge of a forest. Rolling green hills reminded me of Delaware County in New York ‘s Catskills.
Are Austrians friendly? A woman was picking apples from her tree and offered two to Charlotte and me.
Danke schön
Bitte schön!
It was my best apple of the year.
Wallersee is a long lake with a campground, private homes, boaters, and a wedding party leaving a lake-side restaurant .
End of the day was a long uphill with a new and freshly decorated memorial chapel. The name of the person was Johannes, who died one year ago at age 30.
the inscription was “Unvergessen”
Unforgotten, indeed.
My own aches and pains and thirst are now so trivial.
