The Broken Bağlama

  • by

1.

It’s slipping,

that lazy peg,

flattening my tune.

2.

My heart skips a beat,

then adds an extra.

Time to get a grip!

3.

It’s frozen stuck,

that stubborn peg.

Eeek! Grrrrch! Way too sharp!

4.

Arthritic knee.

Another shot,

Doc. Please, cortisone!

5.

Magic compound

smooths the  tuning.

Sing, O bağlama!

6.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

Tune in. Tune out.

Giacomino, sing!

Stringed musical instruments like the violin and the Turkish saz or bağlama, require frequent tuning. They use wooden friction pegs, which slip or seize over time.
