Moving Meditation

8 pieces of brocade

Standing Meditation

I place my left hand

on my belly

my right hand

on my chest

I breathe

and feel the rise and fall

of my life

I’m happy

with this simple embrace.

1

Both Hands Hold Up the Heavens.

I balance the Triple Warmer.

Raising both hands overhead,

stretches and channels my trunk.

I lower my arms to my sides.

Energy

Circulates

I sink down

I breathe out

I move chi

around my body.

Sigh!

2

Drawing the Bow Left and Right.

I shoot the Eagle– poor thing!

Horse stance betters my breathing,

My index finger goes straight up,

my thumb, straight out:

tiger’s mouth.

I release

my back grip.

The string sings.

Twang!

3

Separate Heaven and Earth

I balance my Spleen with my Stomach,

anger with contentment.

Right palm turns up to the sky.

Left palm descends to the depths.

Reverse.

I breathe in

press down

breathe out.

I plunge toward the Earth.

Whoosh!

4

The Wise Owl Gazes Backwards

I turn my neck

prevent

five diseases,

seven injuries:

excessive joy

anger

anxiety

grief

melancholy

fear

alarm

Like an owl,

I look around,

watch for harm,

 search for food.

I breathe in,

turn palms over,

breathe out,

swivel around the other way,

breathe out.

Hoot!

5

Sway My Head, Shake My Tail.

I calm heart-fire.

My hands on my knees,

thumbs backwards,
I look left, dip right.
Breathing extinguishes
my smoldering heart-fire.
I flex into a horse stance,

widen the chest,
fill up
the lungs,
slow
ly exhale.

There’s a lot going on down here!

Psssss!

6

Hold the Feet With Both My Hands

I strengthen waist and kidneys

stimulate my stiff back.

Palms slide down over my back

pressing my Kidney Channel.

My lumbar stretches.

Oooh, my back!

Down down downward

pull my toes

up up up

Ahhh!

7

I Clench My Fists And Glare

I punch my worthy opponent,

refresh my tired spirit.

Generated energy

whips along from feet to fist.

I punch, palm down,

twist, pull back,

switch punches.

My aggression is part of who I am.

Yow!

8

Bounce On My Toes

I raise my heels,

crash them down,

flush coagulated chi.

My mind makes it circulate

wherever it is needed.

Hands are loose

shoulders droop

cares subside

my mind calms,

moves my chi

wherever

it is needed.

Thunk!

Concluding Standing Meditation

Tree-hug pose

gathers chi

I breathe in slowly.

Time flows untimed

I breathe out slowly.

Time swims away with my feelings.

Look how

my bubbling well

buoys me!
